Sofa: Pottier & Stymus Inlaid SOLD

This is a 19thC Inlaid Rosewood Settee by Pottier & Stymus, NY 3rd Quarter of the 19thC. Their work is in major NY museums & held in high esteem. Recently, A mate to this Settee appeared at the Neal Auction Co in N.O. even the ink stamped #s are similar. Since the galleries research is so excellent, I am attaching it here
\\\" An American Aesthetic Carved Inlaid and Incised Rosewood Settee, late 19th c., attributed to Pottier and Stymus, NY, black ink inscription \\\"86694/GRAVES PARLOR\\\" bowed crest centered by urn and floral plaque, flanked by leaf and berry carving, molded seat rail, leaf inlaid blocks, turned, tapered legs, casters, height 40 in., width 54 1/2 in., depth 28 in.
Note: Pottier and Stymus use of a five-digit numbering system before 1888 is well-known and is documented in Kristin Herrons article on Glenmont, the Thomas Edison Residence in West Orange, New Jersey. The digits on a Pottier and Stymus example could be penciled, impressed, stenciled, or inscribed in black ink, as seen here.Herron notes that the numbers were probably assigned chronologically, low \\\"Ingersoll 3924\\\" on an Egyptian Revival chair at the Metropolitan Museum of Art dates from c. 1870 and a c. 1882 wardrobe at Glenmont is marked with a higher number\\\"Pedder 66595\\\" The inscribed number in ink on this sofa \\\"86694\\\" indicates manufacture between 1883 and 1888. An 1888 fire in the manufactory destroyed the firms\\\' records, and probably terminated use of the numbers in subsequent work from Pottier and Stymus.
Also distinctive of the Pottier and Stymus firm, the client\'s name, \\\"Graves\\\" is inscribed on the sofa seen here along with the number.
