Sofa: Meeks Salesman Sample

A Rare & Important American Salesman Sample or Child\\\'s Sofa
by J & J W Meeks NY circa 1840. The sofa is made of Mahogany & Mahogany Veneer, & maintains its original finish, which has been polished over some time ago. There have been two full size sofa\\\'s on the market, identical in form to this piece which bear the label of J & J W Meeks.. The Meeks firm was most prolific & there furniture is in major American Museums. There is shrinkage on the front apron. The upholstery is contemporary. Please note the doll on the sofa to give you an idea of the scale.
