A signed Cast Iron Birdhouse, signed Miller Iron Co. Providence Rhode Island and dated 1868. This Bird House is an exact replica of a Victorian Home that exists in Roslyn Harbor NY. This is one of 4 of these bird houses that I have had, two going to two different Long Island Museums, one to the owner of the Roslyn home that this is a replica of and this one which I sold in 1983 and purchased back from the owner. Usually, when these are found, they are missing the steps outside the house which are present here, there is one spike missing on the roof which is shown and there is some small trim off near the top of the right arch & an arch on the side of the house, [these are both shown below]. Another Bird house showed up this spring at Doyles Gallery, below is what Lita Solis Cohen wrote in MAD about the bird house: “This Gothic Revival cast-iron birdhouse from the second half of the 19th century caused a whirl. It was stamped “MILLER IRON CO. PROV RI PAT’D APRIL 14, 1868” and measured11"highx14¾"wide x10.5..Estimated at $800/1200, it sold for $7500. However, you must add to that the 25% buyers premium to that figure which brings it to $9375.00 (Item number: 923)
